Website

Websites are now a very important part of promoting an artist. Websites may differ from one artist to the next, but most have features that are common across the board.
Social networking has exploded in the last couple of years and now it is possible to follow your favourite artist on sites such as, facebook, twitter, YouTube and MySpace. The most websites have a clear way to connect and sign up for these sites making it easier to contact the artists and other fans. Another feature that is common in these websites is the bar at the top of the home page. This bar has the links to all the other parts of the website. It is an easy way of navigating a way round the website and gives viewers a chance to see what there is available to them. One more feature is an image of the artist/band/musician. This is a picture usually connected with their album of the moment, to help cross promotion. The image is big and centred and will tell the viewer the genre of the artist, the target group and whether their music would be something the viewer might like.

We can see that ‘the Saturdays’ website fits these features and they have used them to enhance their promotion. The main image is this image used on their new album ‘Headlines’, this helps promote the album by putting the image in people subconscious. The colours used on the website are very girly, fun and playful. This sums up the image this band wants to put across, so it is no wonder the groups target audience is younger girls, as the style is very appropriate. The font is also in connection to the group’s new album and the heads title ‘the Saturdays’ is put in such a way that is common across all Saturdays’ merchandise. The website makes it obvious to viewers that the groups is pop related and aimed at young girls. However with their social networking sites they spread across to a wider audience and make themselves more available to the public. This works very well. Another aspect of the website that works well is the ‘events section’. In some website this can be hard to navigate to, but in this website it is clear and easy to find. It is an important part of the website as fans will be most interested in this way of seeing the group. Their gigs can make lots of money and here is the best place to seek information.
